With Little room for rigs or lighting we cut openings at strategic place’s to allow light in and filmed with the diminuitive yet powerful Canon 5D.This approach meshed with the cramped spaces allowed for the claustrophobia and uneasiness of the captor to come acros,s as he fought to explain his belief to his interegator who lurked in the shadows.
Giving someone a hand up, as opposed to a hand out is the approach that Mayday Trust take with helping thieir clients fight addiction.
I feel priviliged that all the people I meet on this project trusted me enough to tell thier story. It is one thing to look deep into the forgotten chambers of your soul and bear it to your peers,
but it is another and quite a brave thing to do it on camera, so that others in similar situations can be inspired and encouraged to never give up their fight and overcome their addictions.
There were no great explosions or edge of your seat special effects with fireballs and daring stunts in this story, but the young people’s journeys to this place in front of this camera were nothing short of inspiring.They had no body double or stunt person to encounter their trials and tribulations, they encountered each and every hard act of life themselves.
This short movie shows the amazing work that Mayday Trust do in terms of helping these young people to help themselves.This is one of those projects that leave’s me feeling challenged for all the right reasons and enthused about life.Getting alongside these young people and hearing their stories made me realise that we are all just a step away from the many pitfalls of life but how they choose to get back up again with the help of Mayday Trust was good for the soul.
A whistle stop tour of countries, valleys, sea and mountain this production was filmed with styles ranging from shooting from the hip capturing opportunistic situations to letting the camera roll and being awestruck as nature did it’s thing.
It was a most awesome delight to capture the sunrise at 5am at minus temperature, sit by the legendary tranquil waters of Lough D erg as the camera rolled, to survey the poetic transitory movement of people’s in Zurich’s cosmoploitan plaza’s, to happen upon a group of freinds skimming in Snowdonia mountain lakes to the far out moves of dancers on the med.
The result is a fast paced wild rumpus in motion of people being alive and not missing a moment of what life has to offer.
